Where to buy on the Costa del Sol.
About 150 kilometres of coast from Sotogrande in the west to Rincón de la Victoria in the east, with Málaga airport near the middle. Each town has a guide to what it is like, where to look within it and the practical bits, then its homes.
The towns with homes for sale.
San Roque
The municipality that includes Sotogrande, with its marina, polo fields and golf courses, at the far western end of the coast: quieter, greener and twenty minutes from Gibraltar airport.
Manilva
The western end of the Costa del Sol: the fishing town of Sabinillas, the marina at La Duquesa and the village of Manilva in the vineyards above, with some of the lowest prices on the coast for a sea view.
Casares
A white village on a hill and, down on the coast, Casares Playa, a quieter stretch of beachfront between Estepona and Manilva with lower prices for a sea view.
Estepona
A proper Spanish town with a flower-filled old quarter, a marina and a long seafront promenade, half an hour west of Marbella and better value than it.
Benahavís
A hill village a few minutes inland from San Pedro and Marbella, with golf on every side, quiet urbanisations and views down to the sea.
Marbella
The town most people have heard of, with the widest choice of homes on the coast: the old town, the Golden Mile, Puerto Banús, the golf valley of Nueva Andalucía and the beaches east of the centre.
Mijas Costa
The coastal strip of Mijas between Fuengirola and Marbella: La Cala de Mijas, Calahonda, Riviera del Sol, Miraflores and El Chaparral, mostly apartment communities with pools close to the beach.
Mijas
The municipality behind Fuengirola, from the white village of Mijas Pueblo on the hill to the golf valley below it, with views over the coast at prices below the seafront.
Fuengirola
A lively town with seven kilometres of beach, a train to Málaga airport in under half an hour, and one of the largest British communities on the coast.
Benalmádena
Between Torremolinos and Fuengirola, with a large marina, long beaches, a train to the airport and a big community from the UK that lives here all year.
Torremolinos
The closest town to Málaga airport, ten minutes by road or train, with long beaches, the seafront restaurants of La Carihuela and prices still among the lower ones on the coast.
Rincón de la Victoria
Fifteen minutes east of Málaga city, a quieter and more Spanish beach town with the city, its airport and its station on the doorstep, and prices below the western coast.
